RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Opening the door to new and emerging marketing opportunities for the do-it-yourself publisher, Lulu.com, the premier digital content platform on the Internet, today introduced its eBook Optimization service that allows users to format their works for viewing on Apple's iPhone and Sony(R) eBook Reader.

For the first time, content publishers participating in the Lulu online marketplace can ensure that customers have the opportunity to download content onto handheld devices including the iPhone and Sony Reader, and take it wherever they go. Previously available only to large publishers, individual creators can now take advantage of the Lulu eBook Optimization service to reach the rapidly growing market of eBook readers.

"Our goal from the beginning has been to provide our community of users with the most effective tools to help them publish and profit from their creative works," said Bob Young, founder and CEO of Lulu.com. "And as demand for eBooks continues to grow, we want to empower our users to reach this valuable market."

Lulu's eBook Optimization service enables individual publishers to format existing PDF files for viewing on an iPhone or Sony Reader. The service is available for $25 per project and the publisher can then set the price and advertise his or her work as they see fit.

eBook Optimization is one of several recent enhancements to the Lulu.com user experience that makes it easier and more fun than ever to publish. Is the final product of my work in ebook format a self-contained app on the iphone (like appengines books)? or will it only open in some ebook reader like stanza, bookshelf, or ebook reader? Also, may i specify how many or how few fonts that the book can be read in, or how big or small the font that is use will show up with? How about the offering of pagination or chapter navigation? Will my ebook be available through the Apple App Store online or through Lulu? Thanks for the information. roger@borngraphics.com
