I don't know about you, but I use my iPhone so much that having it lying on my desk while I work is becoming increasingly inconvenient.  I find myself reaching over to it so often throughout the day to answer messages received on Facebook or to retweet or respond to something on Twitter.  Because it lays flat on the desk I actually find myself picking it up to check it just to see if I have any new messages or emails. 

Initially I was using a dock, which kept it upright next to my desk, but ever since purchasing a protective case it no longer fits into the dock.   So I moved the dock into my drawer and went back to laying the iPhone on the desk.

Recently I came across a new iPhone stand called the H1-Touch from Luxa2.  The H1-Touch is a stylish aluminum iPhone / mobile phone holder designed to spread its wings to accommodate your phone, whether it's naked or in a case.   The stand has 6 rubber arms that spread and come together to grip your device.  These 6 rubber arms are integrated into an articulating plate that allows you to pivot and rotate your phone to the horizontal position for watching videos or reading emails or back to the vertical position for navigating, to use the front facing camera, etc.   The rubber arms extend to fit devices from 1.77" to 2.83" and the articulating plate not only rotates 360-degrees but also flips 300-degrees, allowing you to easily share your screen with someone across from you.

The stand itself is designed so that it leans back over its base.  This allows you to tap on the screen without fear of the stand tipping.  This curved design also keeps the device balanced when you flip it over to share your screen.    The back plate that the phone rests against also features a rubber texture, which prevents the phone from slipping even when upside down (flipped over).

Another thing I like about the design of the H1-Touch is the center open slot that runs down the center of the stand.  This allows me to keep the iPhone end of the USB cable conveniently tucked in for easy connection to the iPhone.

My only gripe with the H1-Touch is that there have been a couple of times when I have pressed on the iPhone's home button that the iPhone has flipped forward.   This was partially my error and partly caused by the design of the H1-Touch.   The back plate of the H1-Touch is approx. 2.25" square, while the iPhone 4" tall.  This means that when you place the iPhone into the holder the lower third of the iPhone has no back support.   So if you place the phone partially into the holder, but forget to push it all the way back against the ‘grippy' rubber back, you may find that pressing the home button may cause the iPhone to flip forward.    Yes, a taller back plate would alleviate this issue, but so wouldn't taking an extra split second to make sure the iPhone is placed all the way into the cradle.   Either way, it's a small but important gripe.

The H1-Touch was specifically designed for the iPod Touch, iPhone 3G & 3G S, and iPod Classic - but it should fit and be fully compatible with most any smart phone on the market.  For those who may own an iPad, Luxa2 is now shipping a larger version specifically designed for the iPad.  

The packaging that the H1-Touch arrived in was equally impressive, which also makes the H1-Touch suitable to give someone as a gift.   

The H1-Touch is a well made, high-quality accessory for the iPhone and iPod that provides hands-free access to the device.   The retail price is $49.95, which is a pretty steep for a phone holder, but I have found it online selling closer to $30.
